History
Danisco Sugar Assens was founded in 1884. From the outset, the juice stations in Haarby, Salbrovad and Uglebjerg belonged to the factory. From the juice stations, the liquor was piped to the factory. The juice stations that were set up in order to shorten the transport route from beet field to factory were gradually closed down, however.
From the beginning, Assens was designed for the production of raw sugar and brown sugar, but in 1963 it was converted into producing granulated sugar. In 1974, the production of brown sugar ceased entirely.
Sugar production ceased in Danisco Sugar Assens after the beet campaign 2006.
Local community & environment
