The site

The main activity of the Brabrand site is Innovation, but six divisions, a regional sales office for Danisco Animal Nutrition and shared and staff functions are also represented here.

As of 1 January 2005 the site employed 479 people, 243 of whom in Global Innovation, 77 in the divisions, 13 in Global Sales and Marketing, 46 in Sales and Customer Service, seven in HR, four in Sustainable Development, one in Global Operation, 39 in IT, 15 in Finance and 34 in Site staff.

History

In 1962 the former Grindstedværket bought about 145,000 square metres of land and the first part of the Brabrand site was inaugurated in 1964. The main activity was R&D and Marketing & Sale of food ingredients. In 1980 the company changed its name to Grindsted Products. The main focus was changed from pharmaceuticals to food ingredients and all activities from the pharmaceutical area moved from Aarhus to Brabrand. Brabrand was the headquarters of Grindsted Products from 1977 to 1995. Many new subsidiaries were established all over the world.
 
Today, the floor space is about 25,000 square metres and the Brabrand site has very modern innovation laboratory facilities. Recently, new dairy and bakery laboratories were taken into use. The site has modern meeting facilities and very often customers and colleagues from all over the world come to the Brabrand site for training.

Local community & environment

Aarhus has an international school, several high schools, a university, a business school and many institutions of higher education.

Child care
The city offers a great variety of day nurseries and kindergartens. Standard opening hours are from 6.30 am to 5 pm.

Leisure
The city provides sports facilities of all kinds, outdoor sports grounds, sports centres and swimming pools, and if you are interested in tennis, football, sailing, golf etc. there is always a club in Aarhus.

Culture
Aarhus has a rich cultural life and offers a music hall, theatre and several cinemas. In 2004 a new art museum, Aros, was opened. There are many other museums, e.g. the museum of Den Gamle By (The Old Town), an open-air museum of urban history and culture, see and Moesgaard Museum with pre-historical exhibitions.

Since 1985 Danisco has supported Den Gamle By through a sponsorship of two houses (bakery and distillery). Danisco is the main sponsor of the Danisco Cup and some local sports activities.

Location

Danisco's headquarters in Copenhagen are a 3-hour drive away (approximately 300 km).
The nearest airport is the airport of Aarhus, approximately a 40-minute drive from Brabrand. In addition, Billund airport is about 70 minutes away from Brabrand.

There is a regular bus transport to the centre of Aarhus to and from both airports. A taxi drive from the centre of Aarhus to Brabrand takes approximately 15 min.
