Genencor International, a Danisco company, is a leading industrial biotechnology company that develops innovative enzymes and bioproducts to improve the performance and reduce the environmental impact of the cleaning, textiles, starch processing, food, feed, bio-energy and chemical industries. Brugge is one of the Genencor production sites.

History
The Brugge facility is located in the historical city.
Built in 1860 as a local distillery, it became a Dutch-owned baker’s yeast production plant in 1897 (Nederlandse Gist en Spiritusfabriek).
In 1970, the plant was transformed into an enzyme fermentation plant complete with new fermentation and utility building.
In 1995, the facility became a Genencor site when the company acquired the industrial enzymes division of Royal Gist Brocades.
Since May 1, 2005 Genencor International was acquired by Danisco. Today, the Brugge manufacturing site is one of Genencor’s main locations for the production of industrial enzymes.
The history of Bruges begins around 2000 years ago. At that time there was a Gallic-Roman settlement on the site of the city.The historic city centre was added to the Unesco’s World Heritage List.
