The site
The plant is running 24 hours a day, seven days a week and produces Crystalline Xylose. The site employs around 40 people, most of whom in production.
History
The plant was established in 1996 by Finnish Cultor to produce Xylose, the precursor of the sweetener Xylitol. Xylitol is recovered from a side stream of an adjacent pulp mill. The production of Xylose is based on Danisco Sweeteners’s own process technology.
Local community & environment
Lenzing is a small industrial town and the main site of one of the world's largest viscose fibre producers called Lenzing AG (www.lenzing.com).
Location
Lenzing is located in the federal province of Upper Austria, close to the so-called lake district approx. 250 km west of Vienna and 60 km east of Salzburg.

Driving directions: on A1 motorway (coming either from Vienna or Salzburg) use exit “Seewalchen”. Follow the signs towards “Lenzing”. After the second railroad crossing keep going straight ahead for approx. 400 meters, then turn left and you have reached Danisco Sweeteners GmbH.
