Pargua has a population of more or less 2,000 people and is located about 58 km southwest of Puerto Montt. In Pargua, fishing (sea urchin, seaweed, clams) has been the most important economic activity for many years.
However, economic activity has undergone changes during the last decade due to the reduction of these natural resources and the increase of industry. On the other hand, Danisco Chile S.A. has provided constant support to different social groups for instance by donating PCs to the rural school and the police station.
