Tjerk de Ruiter is Chief Executive Officer for Genencor, the biotechnology division of Danisco A/S.
Prior to joining Genencor in 2006, Tjerk held a number of leadership positions at Danisco A/S including Senior Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing, Chief Operating Officer for Cultures, Specialties, and Flavors, and President of Danisco US. In 2004, he was named to the Danisco A/S executive committee.
Prior to joining Danisco in 1998, Tjerk held a number of positions in the food ingredient industry including serving as Chief Operations Officer for the Americas at Cultor Food Science, which was acquired by Danisco A/S in 1999.
He also held positions at Quest International and Naarden International.
A native of The Netherlands, Tjerk holds a bachelor of business administration degree from the University Nijenrode and a master of international management degree from the American Graduate School of International Management.
Michael V. Arbige, PhD is our Executive Vice President, Technology, a position he has held since 1999.
Since joining us in 1990, Michael has served as Vice President of Research, Vice President of Development, Senior Scientist, and Director of Fermentation and Process Recovery.
Michael is on the Illinois Ethanol Research Advisory Board, is Executive Director for the Bay Bio Organization, Director of Solazyme Inc., and sits on the Editorial Board for the Industrial Research Institute.
After a brief period at the Environmental Protection Agency, Michael joined Genencor Incorporated playing a lead role in the development of the first series of recombinant and protein engineered protein products ever to enter the industrial marketplace. Michael has been involved in the commercialization of hundreds of protein based products and has helped establish laboratory and production facilities around the world.
Michael received his BS degree in microbiology from the University of Rhode Island and his PhD degree in microbial physiology from the University of New Hampshire.
Andrew Ashworth is Vice President Finance, Genencor Division of Danisco.
Andy joined Genencor in 1998 after previous experience with Price Waterhouse Coopers, Corning, and VF Corporation in several senior financial roles including treasury, tax, financial reporting, and mergers and acquisitions.
At Genencor, Andy has been responsible for developing reporting systems, measuring division performance, and guiding the financial function for the division.
Andy holds an MBA from The Rochester Institute of Technology and a BA in economics from Hartwick College. He also holds a CPA in the State of New York.
Ken Herfert is Senior Vice President Supply, Genencor Division of Danisco.
Previously, Ken was Vice President of R&D Operations for Genencor playing an important role in the "BIT" team for Genencor's Fabric & Household Care business.
Earlier positions include head of Development within the R&D organization, Plant Manager and various other roles in the R&D and supply organization.
Ken serves on the advisory board to the Northwestern University Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering.
Ken holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
James Laughton is Executive Vice President Danisco Animal Nutrition, Food and Beverage Enzymes.
James joined Finnfeeds International Ltd (Cultor) in 1992 as Vice President for Sales and Marketing where he had global sales and marketing responsibility for the start-up of the animal feed enzyme business.
In 1999, when Cultor was taken over by Danisco, he became president of the Animal Nutrition Division.
He has recently been appointed Executive Vice President Danisco Animal Nutrition, Food and Beverage Enzymes in Genencor, a Danisco Division. His responsibilities now include developing the enzyme business for both animal feed and human food applications.
James has a BS degree in agriculture from Reading University, UK.
Philippe Lavielle is Executive Vice President Business Development, Genencor Division of Danisco
Philippe joined Genencor in 1990 and has held several positions in Business Development and Global Business management.
His current responsibilities include head of the development of sustainable businesses for Genencor, as well as head of the fabric and household care business segment.
Philippe is a member of Genencor's senior management team and is also responsible for the division's communication and public affairs.
Prior to joining Genencor, he worked for Cultor 1988-1990 as General Manager of Biopulp International, a position dedicated to developing biotech opportunities for the forestry and paper making sector.
Philippe holds a MSc in management from the HEC School of Management in Paris. He is married and is a father of three.
Glenn Nedwin is Executive Vice President Technical Enzymes, Genencor Division of Danisco.
Glenn joined Genencor in October 2007, with over 26 years experience in the biotechnology industry. He started his career as a Post-doctoral Fellow at Genentech, Inc. and spent 11 years on the pharmaceutical side of biotechnology in various companies including Molecular Therapeutics, Inc. (a Bayer AG company) and Xoma Corporation. Glenn then spent the next 15+ yrs in industrial biotechnology, where for 14 years as President of Novozymes Inc, he co-founded and ran Novozymes’ US R&D headquarters, as well as being active in business development.
Glenn heads the division’s activities in Grain Processing, Fuel Ethanol, Textiles, Other Industrial Markets, as well as markets in developing countries.
Glenn received his Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York, Buffalo and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of California, Riverside. In addition, Glenn holds a Masters Degree in the Management of Technology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and is Co-Editor in Chief of the Industrial Biotechnology Journal.
Jim Sjoerdsma is Vice President of Human Resources, Genencor and Danisco US.
Jim joined Genencor in 1990 after extensive experience with Rockwell International where he held several management positions in human resources and manufacturing.
At Genencor, Jim has been instrumental in championing Genencor’s culture and employee programs, positioning the company as an "employer of choice," and winning several local and national awards. Most recently, Genencor was named the 2005 Best Place to Work in the US by the Society of Human Resources and the Great Places to Work Institute.
Jim holds an MBA from Nova Southeastern University and a BS in economics from Cornell College.
