Genencor highlights its innovations in biofuels and food enzymes at the BIO World Congress in Chicago

Genencor gave a strong message at the 5th Annual World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioprocessing that we are leading the way in sustainable solutions in biofuels and food ingredients.

One highlight at the event, which was held April 28-30, in Chicago, IL, was CEO Tjerk de Ruiter’s plenary presentation “A Taste of the Future”. His talk put the spotlight on our enzyme innovations for food processing, flavor, quality, and safety.

Also, Genencor and Cornell University held a media demonstration of the Accellerase™ enzyme for cellulosic ethanol. Aaron Kelley, senior science for Genencor’s biorefineries group, gave participants a chance to get their hands on actual substrates in various stages of hydrolysis, a key step to making ethanol from biomass. Reporters also got to conduct a simple cellulase assay themselves.

Genencor’s sponsored track on “Economic and Environmental Indicators of the Biobased Economy,”  moderated by Jack Huttner, vice president of biorefineries, provided a look at what will shape the future of biofuels. In addition, Colin Mitchinson, director of applications, delivered a breakout session on Accellerase.

Genencor’s booth at this year’s World Congress also featured Accellerase.

Overall, the event was a great opportunity for Genencor to show how it plays a key role in driving the biobased economy.
