We report our direct energy consumption (energy purchased for own consumption), indirect energy consumption (energy purchased in forms of electricity, heat and steam) and. the percentage of that energy that comes from renewable resources.
The total energy consumed per tonne of product we produce decreased significantly during 2009/10. Since 2007, we have reduced our energy consumption by 21% per tonne of product – more than double our target of 10%. Energy-saving programmes implemented at our largest energy-consuming plants have been key contributors to this reduction.

As we invest in efforts to reduce energy consumption and reach our short-term environmental targets, we must also keep an eye to the future, anticipating the future energy needs of our business.
Continuing and expanding these efforts over time will be a long-term business imperative. Danisco’s heritage of innovation will play an essential part in our move away from a reliance on fossil fuels towards more renewable energy sources as these alternatives become financially viable.
