Contribution to solutions – Food challenges

In the UK, more than 8.3 million tonnes of food is thrown away each year, yet 61% of that waste could have been avoided through better management.

Globally, the issue is even greater, with food waste producing large amounts of methane as it rots in landfills. For every tonne of food waste, nearly 4-5 tonnes of CO2 equivalents are released into the atmosphere (WRAP 2009).
