Genencor receives 2009 New Product Innovation Award for Enzymes for Biofuel Production

Frost & Sullivan recognizes Accellerase® products for critical role in cellulosic biofuels development

Genencor, a division of Danisco A/S, is the recipient of the Frost & Sullivan 2009 New Product Innovation Award for Enzymes for Biofuel Production. The award was granted for Genencor’s Accellerase® product line, enzymes used to convert biomass into sugar, a critical step in the production of cellulosic ethanol and other advanced biofuels and biochemicals.

According to Frost & Sullivan, the Accellerase® product line provides feedstock and pre-treatment flexibility, better process economics, accessory products and versatility, which are all significant advantages that make it stand out from the competition.

‘In the wake of the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, the worldwide drive for alternative, renewable fuels to help combat climate change is greater than ever,’ said Philippe Lavielle, executive vice president of business development for Genencor. ‘We are thrilled to be part of this international effort and honored to accept this award from Frost & Sullivan.’

‘Genencor has a long tradition of world-class research and development to accelerate biofuels development by creating cellulosic enzyme products that cost-effectively break down non-food feedstocks,’ said Bjarne Adamsen, vice president of business development for Genencor. ‘To be recognized for our efforts by such prestigious organizations – first with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Sustainable Energy Award in November and now by Frost & Sullivan – is truly an honor.’

‘It is with great pleasure that we present the 2009 New Product Innovation Award for Enzymes for Biofuel Production to Genencor, a company that is poised to make a significant contribution to the sustainable energy industry,’ said Frost & Sullivan research analyst Christina Priya Dhanuja. ‘Because Accellerase® addresses key process economics challenges, and provides a greater degree of feedstock and pre-treatment flexibility, Genencor has the potential to attract both biorefinery customers and traditional fossil fuel refiners that are transitioning into the biofuels market.’

Genencor supplies Accellerase® products as part of its dual strategy to drive forward the cellulosic ethanol industry, which includes its dedicated enzyme business, and its joint venture DuPont Danisco Cellulosic Ethanol LLC (DDCE), which develops and provides integrated technology packages for biomass ethanol production.
