Antimicrobial topical rinses

Antimicrobial topical rinses are applied on the surface on foodstuffs and their primary functionality is to control the growth of undesirable of microorganisms.

They mainly belong to the categories 'chemicals & phenolics' and 'acids/salts' but could also include some natural antimicrobials. Read more about these categories under about antimicrobials.

Our antimicrobial topical rinses are patented technologies designed to control the growth of Gram-negative pathogens such as salmonella on whole poultry carcasses and E. coli O157:H7 on beef carcasses.

They are based on two alkaline technologies derived from trisodium phosphates (AvGard® TSP) or more recently sodium metasilicates (AvGard® XP).

AvGard® range
Functionalities
AvGard® TSP
Active compound = TSP (TriSodium Phosphates)
Growth control of Gram-negative pathogens: Salmonella and Escherichia coli.
AvGard® XP
Active compound = SMS (Sodium MetaSilicates)

Growth control of Gram-negative pathogens: Salmonella and Escherichia coli.

Assur-Rinse® technology
Continue program (product + wash equipment + services)
Technology based on:
AvGard® product + Assur-Rinse® wash + equipment modules + patent portfolio + regulatory approvals + mode of action + On-Line Reprocessing system + regular plant safety/quality audits

All are effective against Gram-negative bacteria (occurrence reduction to level meeting USDA performance standards post chill) and applied as an online spray or immersion. Each can also provide OLR (On-Line Reprocessing) advantages in USDA-inspected poultry operations and provide a generally cleaner appearance with no chemical aftertaste.
