The seaweed grows in abundance mainly in the intertidal zones of cold waters in many countries throughout the world.
Danisco's alginates are manufactured at the company’s production facilities in Brittany, France, where the seaweed used is primarily Laminaria species harvested off the local coast.

Products
Alginate is a polymer consisting of sequences of α-L-guluronic acid and β-D-mannuronic acid.
Alginates are referred to as either high-M or high-G alginates, depending on the ratio of the two monomers that form the alginate molecule. In many different applications alginates act as stabilising, thickening and/or gelling agents.
